"The key is to look for inspiration,
not something else.
"This brings us back to falling in love.
"If you want
to excel in math, find a way to fall in love with it.
"Often the way to
engage a topic that seems, shall we say, outside of the scope of your
natural interest, is to learn the human story behind the subject.
"Learn
about the lives of the great scientists, mathematicians, the great
artists, statesmen, war heroes, religious leaders, etc.
"This
is one reason that classic fiction is often the most read of the
classics list--the stories speak to us.
"But whatever it is you feel
called to study--if you want to really learn Shakespeare, or
whatever--find a way to fall in love with it. Find a teacher who loves
it; find a work that interests you for the human interest of it; find a
way to invest yourself so that you can fall madly in love."
